NEC has more than 150K employees worldwide and produces tailored solutions in the core technologies and services required in a networked world, ranging from advanced semiconductor solutions, to large-scale mission critical systems, system integration, broadband and mobile technologies. NEC began business in Europe in the 1970s, and currently accounts for over 4000 employees. NEC Laboratories Europe has been established in 1997 in Heidelberg, Germany, as NEC’s second European research facility. Special emphasis of the Heidelberg site lies on software-oriented R&D for the next-generation Internet, such as new communication architectures and protocols to support multimedia delivery and mobility together with intelligent Internet services.
